How to subscribe to Airtel Tubonge and make free airtel to Airtel calls

Airtel tubonge

Airtel tubonge is a special call service offered by Airtel Kenya that allows it's subscribers make free on-net calls and call across other networks at just Ksh. 2 Bob per minute. It is a product which targets those people who for one reason or another spend a lot of time on their phone making calls and tubonge ensures they do so at the minimum cost possible.
Till date it is the most successful Airtel product with Airtel Amazing bundles also getting a good reception from many Airtel users in the country.
Airtel Tubonge plans.
With tubonge you can subscribe to a daily plan at ksh.10, weekly at ksh.50 or monthly at ksh.150. With any of these subscriptions you get  free airtel to airtel calls up to 100 minutes per day, 700 minutes per week or 3000 minutes per month and you also get to call other networks at ksh.2 per minute.
This is a great deal considering that call rates are still quite expensive in the country with some telcos charging as high as ksh.4 per minute.
While Faiba mobile gives it's subscribers free on net calls with a valid data bundle plan, the network faces two major drawbacks which are limited compatible devices as well as limited network coverage in the country.
How To Subscribe To Airtel Tubonge.

To subscribe to any Airtel Tubonge plan of your choice follow the following simple steps:
  • Dial *544# on your Airtel line.
  •  Select option 2 'Tubonge Voice'.
  • Choose option 1 for the new Tubonge Plus.
  • Select option 2 for daily Tubonge @ Ksh.10.
  • Go for option 3 to get 7 days Tubonge @ Ksh. 50.
  • Select option 4 for 30 day offer at Ksh. 150.
  • Select option 5 for Tubonge gift.
  • Confirm your subscription and you're good to go.
You also have an option of buying once or going for auto renew meaning if you want to purchase for a specific day you can just purchase daily tubonge once and you wont have to worry the following day since it wont automatically re-purchase once the expiry period of the existing plan is over.
You can also buy Airtel tubonge for another number by choosing option 4.
Please note that you also earn Zawadi Points every time you purchase any tubonge plan.

How to check Airtel tubonge balance.
  • Dial * 544#.
  •  Select option 2, 'Tubonge voice'.
  • Next select option 7 'check Tubonge balance'.
  • Alternatively just dial *544*2*7#.
  • You will receive an SMS indicating if you have a tubonge plan or you are on PYG . It also gives you the balance if you have an active tubonge subscription.
What happens if your Tubonge plan validity period ellapses before you exhaust all your minutes?
Well, the answer is simple; you loose all the remaining minutes and you will be charged as per your normal tariff rate. In case you subscribe to another plan, then the previous Tubonge won't be carried forward and you can't also subscribe to more than one plan at a given time.

How much do you save with Tubonge?
Let's say you want to make a call for five minutes. If you are to use the normal call rates, then this will cost you ksh.20.But if you subscribe to Airtel tubonge daily at ksh.10,then you will not spend further than that if you are calling an airtel phone user, but if it is another network then you will spend ksh10(bonga subscription)+ksh10(2 Bob per minute)  which will total to ksh.20.
This means that for any call longer than five minutes you will save on tubonge, and on any calls be it more or less than the five minutes we have used in this example you still make a lot of savings since you will have free airtel to airtel calls and you also can call other networks at ksh.2bob thereafter.
Airtel have been heavily investing in the Kenyan market in a bid to ensure that their customers enjoy affordable and innovative products and services despite stiff competition from Telkom and Safaricom. That is why apart from tubonge, airtel Kenya consumers enjoy other products like Airtel Unliminet which ensures you get data, calls and SMS at one purchase rather than having to go thorough the trouble of having to buy each one of them individually. There is also airtel money which allows you to buy airtime or data, pay utility bills or send and receive money to or from any network in Kenya.
Another product that closely resembles airtel Tubonge is Telkom's Niaje bundle.

Airtel have also introduced an extra package to their Tubonge options known as Tubonge Plus. It comes in two options to choose from:

  1. At Ksh. 20 you get 100 minutes Airtel to Airtel calls per day and 10 minutes to other networks valid for 24 hours.
  2. For Ksh. 20 you get 100 minutes on-net minutes per day and 50 MB valid for 24 hours as well as call other networks at Ksh. 2 bob per minute.
Tubonge Plus is available as the first option in Tubonge plans on *544#.
